For two weeks in May, Partner Hany Hassan, FAIA, Director of the Washington DC office, will participate in a prestigious cultural exchange in St. Petersburg, Russia, sponsored by the Likhachev Foundation and the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Center. The unique "Fellowships in Russia" program enables cultural visits by foreign intellectuals, with each fellow having his/her program individually tailored according to their project and professional interests. Participants engage in important cultural initiatives, with the goal of disseminating information about the history and cultural diversity of contemporary Russia with a broader Western audience.
During his residency Mr. Hassan will explore issues relating to architectural preservation and cultural heritage shared by historic cities around the world, drawing on his extensive experience with diverse and sensitive projects in our nation's capital, including the Historic DC Courthouse, Museum of Diplomacy, Washington Monument Visitor Entrance and Washington Hilton.
The 2012 Fellows include nine American and three European professionals in the field of culture, arts and art history, who were selected from among 63 competition applicants.
