BLDG 92 was selected for a 2012 Building Brooklyn Award, given annually by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. BLDG 92, winner in the "Civic & Institutional" category, is among twelve award recipients representing an inspired and creative mix of projects that enrich the borough's neighborhoods and economy.
Beyer Blinder Belle, in collaboration with workshop/apd, designed BLDG 92 through the transformation of a historic Navy Yard building into a modern and sustainable facility that now houses a new public programs and exhibition center, as well as leasable office space and a café.
An independent, 11-member panel of Brooklyn-based architects, planners, economic development experts and city officials selected the winning projects from a highly competitive pool of nominees. Projects were judged on a list of criteria including design excellence and innovation, economic impact, sustainability, urban context/design, contribution to neighborhood, and the most important but least definable quality, ‘Brooklyn-ness.'
