The American Society of Landscape Architects awarded its Traveling Award for Design Excellence to the Smithsonian Mall-Wide Perimeter Security Master Plan. As part of Beyer Blinder Belle's term contract with the Smithsonian Institution, the firm is designing permanent upgrades to the mall-wide perimeter security. The new streetscape, landscape and grounds design will maintain the historic integrity of the site while achieving the highest standards of security to protect visitors, staff, collections and facilities. The security installation will enhance the appearance of the Smithsonian facilities and the National Mall by complementing the surrounding urban fabric and the museum site landscapes.
