  • Architectural Design

For each commission, we bring the best and most creative thinking to our clients. We are committed to a collaborative process which integrates the physical and the social aspects of each project—how people are best served, in their residences, workplaces, neighborhoods, campuses, cultural or recreational spaces, or in urban centers. Our firm was created in 1968, in the wake of the urban renewal movement in the United States, and

helped focus architects' attention to the fabric of urban spaces and community life. Our clients trust in the importance we give to details, our intimate understanding of how people will use and experience their environment, the incremental layering of new and historic elements, and our ability to synthesize design with execution to ensure that the aesthetics of a building are not separated from the techniques of its construction.

  • Preservation

Building on our solid foundation of expertise in architecture, planning, historic research and advanced methodologies, our preservation approach strikes a careful balance between creative design and restoration technology. We provide comprehensive preservation services that include existing conditions assessments, HABS/HAER documentation, historic structure reports, preservation plans, historic tax credit

applications, historic/cultural planning, Section 106 and 4(f) reviews, National Register nominations, landmark certification inspections, materials conservation, adaptive reuse, planning, restoration, and rehabilitation design and contract documents. We are recognized for our vision and solutions that revitalize and provide relevant, sustained use of our significant structures and neighborhoods for the future.

  • Planning and Urban Design

Planning and urban design can be the long-term vision for an entire city, a plan for a growing or changing community or campus, the design of a mixed-use waterfront redevelopment, or the details of a public street. We work at each of these levels of inquiry, with a passionate commitment to the vibrancy of our cities and communities—the spaces of our shared public life. Cities, campuses and public spaces evolve over time, creating layers of old and new—patterns that are the essence of places with timeless appeal. A good plan celebrates this quality

by weaving these elements into real communities that do not require contrived "place-making." Informed by interdisciplinary collaborations with experts in real estate economics, transportation and infrastructure, landscape, environmental sustainability, and community and political engagement, our planning and design frameworks guide our clients through the gradual realization of a vision in the form of architecture and public space.

  • Interior Design

A core group of architects and designers—focusing on the interior architecture for residential, corporate, institutional, and retail clients—passionately believes that the encounter between aesthetics and practicality creates unique spaces. Collaboration with the client and end users during programming and throughout the project fosters an evolved design that neither

overlooks the human scale or the budget. Sustainable systems and materials are sensitively integrated, even within the most intricate of historic interiors. Looking beyond the finished project, our team ensures that the work results in a lasting, usable and beautiful space that will continue to satisfy the occupants' needs.

  • Design Build

Reviving the tradition of master builder, design-build has become a viable alternative to the design-bid-build process. It aligns design with construction early on to achieve cost efficiencies while advancing strong design concepts. We are adept at both understanding the client's needs, and at working efficiently with construction managers. Our team establishes an early dialogue with the construction managers regarding the design intent, and then follows through at every stage of the design process, to

provide an end result that remains true to both the vision and budget. Whether building large skylights for a 1.2-million SF commercial expansion or completing a sophisticated preservation project, we have helped our clients achieve accelerated completion goals and cost efficiencies.

  • Sustainable Design

Inherent in Beyer Blinder Belle's design philosophy is a commitment to reduce the impact of buildings on the local and global environment. We are dedicated to helping achieve a society that values the redeployment of existing resources over expending new, irreplaceable ones. Over the past four decades, our work demonstrates a longstanding commitment to the preservation and adaptive reuse of existing structures, the

redevelopment of brownfield sites, and the planning of communities to reduce sprawl and resource depletion. Many of our core values and fundamental practices are akin to those now embraced by the green design movement and by the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED rating system. We are rigorously striving to achieve LEED accreditation for every architect in our firm.

  • Graphic Design

Wayfinding and graphic identity are visual aesthetics that enhance the experience of place. This is why graphic design is integral to our work as architects, and why we seek to consistently and effectively convey information that is integrated with architectural design. Whether it is

comprehensive ADA-compliant signage; exterior wayfinding graphics; corporate identity systems for print, environmental, or digital application; exhibition or publication designs for promotional campaigns—the design result engages the user and illuminates the message.
