Adams Morgan Vision Framework

BBB led a community-based planning effort for Washington, DC's Adams Morgan neighborhood, resulting in a vision framework that preserves character and enhances quality of life.

The Adams Morgan Vision Framework is a strategic planning initiative and community engagement process that identifies and articulates a vision for the neighborhood's continuing evolution. Adams Morgan appeals to a wide range of people from DC and beyond, due to both its cultural diversity and the many distinct identities it embodies. The neighborhood is a center for night life and is considered by some to be the cultural center of DC's Latin American community. It is also home to dozens of registered historic landmarks and is comprised of seven historic districts. Adams Morgan is undergoing rapid physical and demographic change, some of which has unsettled its traditional identities. Community members are now grappling with how to reinvent Adams Morgan, manage development pressures, and solidify a shared vision. The planning effort was comprised of three main components, all facilitated in English and Spanish: a graphic profile of existing neighborhood conditions, a half-day community workshop, and an action plan that identifies recommendations. The framework recommends opportunities for preserving neighborhood assets, enhancing retail, supporting sustainability, and improving quality of life for the community.
