BBB, in collaboration with workshop/apd, designed the adaptive reuse and addition to the 1857 former Marine Commandant’s house to create BLDG 92: Brooklyn Navy Yard, an exhibit venue and leasable space for mission-related businesses. Following extensive structural stabilization, exterior restoration, and interior rehabilitation, the historic building has been returned to its former glory and transformed into a public education center that celebrates the Navy Yard’s past, present, and future.
Brooklyn Navy Yard, BLDG 92
Brooklyn, NY

Through architecture, landscape, and sustainability, BLDG 92 provides a new face and neighborhood identity for the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Contemporary Design
A contemporary 24,000 SF addition reflects the surrounding industrial vernacular and is connected to the historic building by an atrium, which serves as the clear entry point for visitors and as a welcoming gathering space. BLDG 92, certified LEED Platinum, advances the Navy Yard’s mission to operate as a sustainable industrial park and serves as a model for the adaptive reuse of historic buildings.
