Coney Island Redevelopment

BBB's long-term commitment to planning for the Coney Island community includes an overall vision plan and design guidelines for the revitalization of this world famous amusement destination.

The Coney Island Strategic Plan draws upon the area's extraordinary history and defines a vision that balances dramatic new amusement and entertainment activities with amenities, housing and services to support the revitalization of the entire community. It envisions bold new architecture integrated with the famous Parachute Jump and other iconic landmarks, as well as new public spaces, transit connections, and a multicultural community center. After working with the City of New York on the strategic plan, BBB created a master plan for large-scale mixed use development fronting the historic boardwalk, closely coordinated with the City's successful rezoning of Coney Island. This was instrumental in defining detailed redevelopment goals and infrastructure needs for the area. Building on the prior planning and design work, BBB developed a phasing plan for development and design guidelines for the Coney West and Coney North neighborhoods. The guidelines illustrate goals and priorities for the urban design and public realm of the area, and serve as additional criteria for review of proposed developments. They also provide context to help relate individual developments to the larger vision for the neighborhood and its extraordinary potential.
