A vibrant system of environmental graphics and wayfinding unites the historic residential houses of the University of Pennsylvania’s Quadrangle, enhancing orientation while celebrating the identity of each community.

As part of the comprehensive renovation of the three College Houses—Fisher Hassenfeld, Ware, and Riepe—the signage and wayfinding program transformed a complex network of 42 interconnected buildings into an intuitive, welcoming environment. A cohesive color and graphic palette was derived from the architectural hues and heraldic shields of each house, incorporating patterns and emblematic figures such as the squirrel, unicorn, and Memorial Tower to reinforce identity at key nodes.

Corridor signage was consolidated into a clean, vertical band beside each doorway, combining required room identification with pin-up space and house-specific motifs. New entry wall graphics and amenity signage guided residents and visitors through the expansive complex, helping first-year students and families navigate move-in and daily life with clarity and delight.
