Richard Metsky

FAIA, LEED AP, Partner Emeritus

“The physical form of our most vibrant cities is a complex dialogue between preservation and new design. My work has always focused on how to thoughtfully combine them to reinvigorate the urban fabric.”

In his 35 years at Beyer Blinder Belle, Richard’s work was defined by a graceful balance between historic preservation, adaptive reuse, and contemporary design. With a focus on people-centered places, he led the planning and design of transformative commercial, residential, and cultural projects that enriched their communities.

This design approach is evident across his portfolio. Richard guided the planning of major mixed-use developments like Atlanta Braves -The Battery and the Urban Empowerment Center on 125th Street in Harlem. He led the transformation of Newark's historic Hahne’s Department Store into a vibrant residential building and oversaw the design of 200 Montague Street within Brooklyn’s Borough Hall Skyscraper Historic District. His work also includes the intricate integration of new performance spaces within the NYC Landmarked La MaMa Experimental Theater Club in the East Village and the restoration of the Landmarked Beacon Theater in the Upper West Side.

Richard received his Bachelor and Master of Architecture from Cornell University. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
