A Catalyst for Downtown Rosslyn Breaks Ground
Across the Potomac River from Washington, DC, Rosslyn’s Central Place – a new mixed-use development designed by BBB for the JBG Companies – broke ground in April. Located immediately adjacent to the Rosslyn Metro station, the pair of high-rise buildings – one residential, one an office building – is envisioned as a catalyst for revitalizing downtown Rosslyn, an area that currently suffers from limited urban character and public amenities.
When completed, the office building will be the tallest in the Metro-DC area, featuring 521,000 SF of office space and 44,500 SF of street-front retail and restaurants. The residential building will include 377 units and 821 above- and below-grade parking spaces. The project is intended to enhance an area that currently suffers from limited amenities and pedestrian character, and to create a lively, urban destination. In the office tower, the addition of an open-air multi-use plaza, an observation deck with expansive views of the capital region, a commuter passageway, and public art all help to achieve these goals.

According to an article in the Washington Post, the JBG Companies has already leased nearly half of the commercial building, while across the street, a similarly-sized office tower stands finished but empty. The tenant, Corporate Executive Board, announced that it will move the company’s headquarters to Central Place in 2018.
