“Preservation, adaptation, and transformation of our built world is at its heart an imaginative and vital act. By thoughtfully adapting the spaces we inherit, we translate the values and collective memory of the past into the realm and relevancies of the future.”

A resolute believer in the unique capacity of contemporary design to contribute lasting value and meaning to our inherited buildings, places, and spaces, Nate Rogers has focused his career on renovation, expansion, and adaptive reuse projects for cultural, higher education, and public-sector clients. Trained in both architecture and historic preservation, he specializes in the challenge of discovering opportunities in existing buildings and integrating transformational design within historic contexts with creativity and sensitivity, whether at the scale of a campus landscape or an interior space.

Clients value Nate’s receptivity and commitment to understanding their mission and cultural DNA, his skill at facilitating consensus and engagement, and the clarity with which he communicates nuanced planning and design concepts to a broad array of audiences. Equally at home whether navigating state and local historic preservation regulatory environments, optimizing energy performance upgrades for historic buildings, or researching the particulars of traditional craft, he approaches each project with deep care for building fabric, its latent possibilities, and the client’s highest aspirations.

Nate nurtures long-term relationships with his clients, which include Harvard University, Yale University, the University of Pennsylvania, Vanderbilt University, Colgate University, Phillips Exeter Academy, Princeton Theological Seminary, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Toledo Museum of Art, and the Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach, Florida.

Nate is a graduate of Harvard College (B.A., cum laude with High Honors, History of Art and Architecture) and the University of Pennsylvania (M. Arch., M. Sci. in Historic Preservation, recipient of the Henry Adams Medal). Nate is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania’s Weitzman School of Design, where he teaches a graduate seminar on contemporary design in historic settings, advises masters thesis students, and has published in the peer-reviewed journal Change Over Time. He serves on the Vestry of Trinity Church Wall Street and is a board member of The Evergreens Cemetery (Brooklyn, NY) and the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, an Episcopal seminary. He is a registered architect in the State of New York. Nate joined BBB in 2011.
