Newark Penn Station

Newark Penn Station is a National Register landmark rail terminal built in the early 1930s by McKim, Mead & White. BBB was retained by NJ TRANSIT to design and implement a series of improvements throughout the station, including the overall restoration and lighting of all facades; the rehabilitation of customer service functions including information and ticket facilities; and circulation improvements including the enlargement and rearrangement of escalators and stairs at critical points in the terminal. BBB also designed historically appropriate light poles to provide both direct street lighting and indirect illumination of the restored facades; a new enclosed concourse that provides access to the tracks from the east end of the station; new retail space at the street level; and additional stairs, elevators, and escalators.
