Weaving Past and Present on the Frick’s Gallery Walls
In this special inside look at the ongoing renovation of New York's Frick Collection, we travel to Lyon, France, where the distinctive green velvet wall fabric of the mansion's West Gallery was recently rewoven after more than one hundred years. Sabine Verzier—the sixth generation of her family to oversee the Manufacture Prelle—explains how Prelle made the original fabric starting in 1914, when the Frick mansion was built as a private home. As part of our ongoing renovation and enhancement project, Verzier and the talented Prelle staff reproduced the velvet based on the same silk threads used a century ago.
