As one of the nation’s largest and oldest public library systems, encompassing 58 branches, Brooklyn Public Library sought to unify a collection of buildings that range from Beaux-Arts and Classical Revival to Mid-Century Modern. The new signage system establishes a visual language that strengthens identity and accessibility across all locations, regardless of architectural style.
Brooklyn Public Library Building Signage Program
Brooklyn, NY

A cohesive exterior signage program unites the Brooklyn Public Library system with a clear, consistent presence across the borough’s diverse neighborhoods.

Developed and implemented by LVCK—A Beyer Blinder Belle Studio through a design-build process, the program introduced a family of durable, flexible, and economical sign types approved by both the NYC Public Design Commission and the Landmarks Preservation Commission. The system increases visibility from the street, highlights the wealth of free public programs, and creates a more equitable and welcoming experience for every patron.
