A contemporary redesign for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace’s global headquarters fills the building with natural light and state-of-the-art amenities and technologies, reinvigorating the Carnegie Endowment’s interiors for world-class research and thought leadership.

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is a global think tank dedicated to advancing peace and international cooperation through analysis and research. Founded by Andrew Carnegie in 1910, it has been headquartered on Washington DC’s historic Embassy Row since 1989, in a purpose-built building that needed upgrades to support more frequent, high-profile public events, many streamed worldwide. BBB led comprehensive programming and visioning, full architectural and interior design, and FF&E services for the project. Architectural interventions include a new double-height lobby, whose light-filled communicating stair promotes informal interaction among visitors and staff. The lobby’s distinctive large-format porcelain panels and sculptural wooden seating provide a sense of organic movement, complementing the otherwise minimalist lines of the space.

Interior renovations also prioritized a new 200-person Pritzker Traubert Conference Center, a state-of-the-art media room, and the enhancement of public amenities, common workspaces, and staff offices and the executive suite. These reinvigorated interior spaces now feature integrated AV technology, updated lighting, contemporary finishes, and new furniture. Throughout, a lighter and brighter material palette contributes to the Carnegie Endowment’s welcoming and reflective atmosphere.
