A Land Use Framework is guiding the development of a new Aga Khan University Hospital and Wellness Campus in downtown Kampala, where a diversity of activities will foster a vibrant teaching-learning-healing environment.
BBB is working with the Aga Khan University on a Land Use Framework for a 60-acre site in central Kampala, Uganda. The site will be anchored by a tertiary referral and teaching hospital that will meet critical needs for the region, along with academic facilities for health sciences, graduate, and continuing education. A flexible framework allows for phased development of the hospital and affiliated uses including student and faculty housing, research and office space, a hotel and conference center, and community space. Pedestrian circulation and green open spaces will provide opportunities for physical and psychological wellness. The plan promotes compact, high-density development, maximizing walkability, social interaction and energy and water resilience. The Wellness Campus will be a significant new destination serving Kampala residents as well as regional and international visitors.
