H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse C Street Addition

A contemporary addition to the Moultrie Courthouse revitalizes the mid-century modernist limestone building on DC’s historic Judiciary Square.

The contemporary addition to the H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse, home of the District of Columbia Superior Court and the busiest facility on Judiciary Square, includes six new state-of-the-art courtrooms and chambers for 21 judges, as well as holding spaces, offices, administrative support areas, and public spaces. The addition, a collaboration between BBB and IBI Group and part of an overall Master Plan for the DC Courts’ campus, enhances this court’s accessibility and security. Sustainable features including a partial green roof, solar energy and water capture and management systems, and bike racks elevate the Courthouse to LEED Platinum standards. A lofty atrium and glazed courtroom windows introduce natural light. A granite and stainless-steel fence enhances the approach to the building, while new landscape design reinvigorates the existing facade. Strategic phasing allows the courthouse to remain fully operational throughout construction.
