TWA Terminal Honored with Preservation League's Excellence Award

The TWA Terminal at JFK International Airport is one of two New York City projects to receive the Preservation League of New York State's prestigious Excellence in Historic Preservation Award. The statewide awards program honors notable achievements in retaining, promoting and reusing New York State's irreplaceable architectural heritage. In addition to the Beyer Blinder Belle-restored TWA Terminal, the Hamilton Grange National Memorial was also honored.

"These projects illustrate the broad range of preservation opportunities in New York State," said Jay DiLorenzo, president of the Preservation League. "From re-siting and restoring the home of New York's only founding father, to revitalizing a symbol of the golden age of commercial aviation, preservation continues to contribute to protect authentic examples of our distant and recent past."

Working closely with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, Beyer Blinder Belle guided the rehabilitation of the 1960's TWA Terminal - Eero Saarinen's icon of modern architecture - including stabilization of the building and the design and implementation of a program for its restoration and redevelopment, preparing the facility for adaptive reuse.
