At the time of his death in September 2006, founding partner, our friend and inspiration, Richard Blinder was working on the Shanghai Cultural Plaza, a theater project in the Luwan District. The project was commissioned to Beyer Blinder Belle through an international design competition in 2003 for the redevelopment of a full-block site in central Shanghai's largest historic preservation area, the former French Concession. This development was one of the signature projects
undertaken by the Chinese government for the 2010 World Expo, showcasing Shanghai as a world city.

Mr. Blinder's other notable projects included: the Rubin Museum of Art; New World Stages; Hilton Theater 42nd Street; Barneys Women's Store; Japan Society; Center for Jewish History; the Apollo Theater (New York); Reynolda House Museum of American Art, North Carolina; Montclair Art Museum, New Jersey; Denver Center for the
Performing Arts, Colorado; and the Harvard Business School Precinct Plan and the Natick Mall Expansion, Massachusetts. In 1989, Mr. Blinder founded the James Marston Fitch Charitable Foundation, which is dedicated to the curatorial management of the built world.
