BBB's design converts four 19th-century townhouses into an innovative educational complex for SUNY's Levin Institute.
The Levin Institute offers degree programs and executive training in international relations and commerce. BBB created a home for the Institute by carefully integrating four Manhattan townhouses and a 2-story, rear-yard addition into a facility that occupies a through-block site and possesses ample space for an ambitious program. The design includes a global classroom for up to 100 participants in an in-the-round setting, incorporating digital connectivity to other SUNY campuses and beyond. A variety of other teaching spaces, including classrooms, seminar rooms, and conference rooms are provided, as well as a digital library, administrative and breakout spaces, and a large roof terrace. One of the original townhouses was a New York City landmark and BBB's design blends the existing historic ambience with a modern aesthetic in its interiors and furnishings.
