Marine Air Terminal

BBB's multi-phase restoration of the Marine Air Terminal preserves a historic Art Deco landmark at LaGuardia Airport.

The Marine Air Terminal, designed in the 1930s and opened as the terminal for the Pan Am Clipper flying boat in 1938, is a New York City and National Register Landmark. BBB worked with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on a multi-phase restoration and master plan to identify new and relevant uses and to develop tenant design guidelines. Phase I included reconstruction of the front entrance portal; repair and replacement of the extensive Tennessee Pink Marble flooring and walls; the addition of a removed historic staircase; and the introduction of new period storefronts within the historic rotunda. Phase II involved an extensive exterior restoration of the building, including reconstruction of the building parapets and roofing; restoration of the curved brick façades with their decorative "flying-fish" terra cotta frieze; and replacement of the building's windows.
