At 200 East 75th Street, craftsmanship and traditional materials—hand-laid brick, glazed terracotta, limestone, and decorative metalwork—connect to the historic residential architecture of Manhattan’s Upper East Side, while contemporary design elements—abstract ornamentation, high color contrast, and a contemporary rainscreen assembly for terracotta accents—reinterpret those materials for the present day. The building is crowned by setbacks that evoke historic precedents but are articulated as abstracted, high-relief, terracotta “jewel boxes,” and the windows, conceived as the “eyes to the world,” are given uncommon depth and definition by the terracotta surrounds that reflect light deep into the residential units.
200 East 75th Street
New York, NY

With a contemporary take on traditional craftsmanship, a new residential building integrates into its historic neighborhood while meeting the needs of modern living.

The residential units borrow from the scale, proportion, and layout of classic apartment design, enhanced by open kitchens and ensuite bathrooms to support modern lifestyles. Shared indoor and outdoor amenities include multiple lounges, a multi-sport simulator, a cinema, a fitness center, a music studio, a children’s playroom, and a landscaped garden courtyard and shared roof terrace.
