Beyer Blinder Belle has been working with Amherst College on the development of a campus-wide framework plan initiated in 2013. The all-encompassing campus plan is designed to serve as a flexible, living document that can adapt to evolving priorities and ongoing projects while abiding by strong and clear principles.

Established in 2000, BBB’s DC office has developed into a major architectural practice with a portfolio of diverse projects and established relationships with the city’s architectural community and its most important review agencies. During this time, the office has been involved in several initiatives – combining city planning, urban design, and historic preservation – that are repairing and revitalizing previously neglected and underutilized areas of downtown DC. Below, we focus on Capitol Crossing in Washington’s Downtown East neighborhood, a transformative project that is “healing” the city.

The Master Plan for the New York Public Library’s flagship Stephen A. Schwarzman Building was developed by Mecanoo and Beyer Blinder Belle, who are leading the renovation of the Library’s Midtown Campus.

“It’s been a privilege to lead the renovation of this extraordinary and important building. We see design as a process, not a product. Our work on the Enoch Pratt Free Library allows for the evolution of the institution by sensitively integrating both new infrastructure and new programmatic elements into the historic shell of the building. These improvements will add value to the city of Baltimore and its residents now and in the future.”

Nine rooms of the beloved and historic Stephen A. Schwarzman Building have been brought back to life and public use as The New York Public Library’s new Center for Research in the Humanities.

While their doors may be physically closed due to current social distancing requirements, museums and cultural institutions remain at the center of their communities by sharing vibrant content and active programming online. Below are links to some of BBB’s client institutions’ diverse online content for education, research, and entertainment:

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL) is New York’s new central circulating library, designed by Dutch architecture firm Mecanoo in collaboration with Beyer Blinder Belle. Built within the 1914 shell and steel frame of the Mid-Manhattan Library which it replaces, the 180,000-square foot building is topped with a spectacular angular roof and public rooftop amenities to make a new urban icon on Fifth Avenue.
