Sotheby’s New York

Sotheby's New York headquarters has been redefined and expanded to create versatile public spaces that keep pace with the global art purveyor's growth and transformation.

Visitors to Sotheby's' reimagined New York headquarters are immersed in four floors of gallery, retail, and client spaces designed to accommodate events, sales, and exhibitions of varied scale. Forty galleries—from the street-facing double-height gallery showcasing large-scale sculptural work to white cube, enfilade, corridor, cascade, octagonal and L-shaped spaces—display Sotheby's diverse portfolio. Elegant, spare interiors feature white walls, dark wood and concrete flooring, stained walnut panels and doors—a Sotheby's mainstay—and exposed concrete columns, while original steel ceiling structures were preserved in a nod to the building's former use as cigar factory. Reprogramming and restacking revealed more than 20,000 SF of additional found space and expanded the building's capacity to more than 90,000 SF of state-of-the-art exhibition space designed for openness and discovery. BBB worked in collaboration with OMA as the executive architect.
