Joy + Inspiration 2020
BBB’s RED (Research Exchange & Develop) initiative led a series of ornament workshops utilizing our model shop’s Ultimaker 3D printer, where staff brought their ideas into built form to celebrate the holiday season. The ornament at center by Lauren Cawse “Snowflakes from Spain” sits between Nick Wright’s “Teardrop” (left) and “Heirloom” (right).
“Detail from a Stepwell in India” by Priyanka Sheth: A miniature version of a carved stone bracket detail from a 15th century water structure (stepwell) in India. These brackets supported narrow stone ledges along the walls of the stepwell.
“Teardrop” by Nick Wright: “The left ornament was just a simple geometric shape I came up with when we were considering a range of base files for the office to use as a template – but it ended up looking nice on its own.”
“Heirloom” by Nick Wright: “This ornament is similar to one my mother owned that we’d use to decorate our own tree every year and I thought it’d be fun trying to recreate it from scratch and change the proportions around a little bit.”
“Snowflakes from Spain” by Lauren Cawse: My ornament was inspired by a Spanish tile pattern that I recently used for my kitchen renovation.
