BBB has transformed a notable 20th century Art Deco building in Brooklyn into 21st century live/work condominiums.
Downtown Brooklyn's Belltel Lofts building was originally constructed in 1930 as the Long Island headquarters of the New York Telephone Company. BBB was engaged to convert the historic building into a facility for young urbanites and home-based businesses, including 17 professional offices and 250 live/work residences. In response to the building's deep floor plan and limited windows, innovative interior layouts feature clearstory windows and translucent sliding doors to maximize light and air. The interior design approach creates a loft-like appeal, with modern kitchens and baths. Exterior restoration and modification of the historic storefronts provide new retail entries from the street and access to the parking garage, while the removal of non-historic mechanical equipment serves to accentuate the building's dramatic massing and setbacks.
